It depends on the products, your overall goals and how you want to brand your products. There's not really one best way - even big companies use multiple distribution channels online for their products.

CREATING YOUR OWN WEBSITE

Pros
- allows you to establish your own "real estate" on the Web;
- allows you to attract a bigger audience; not limited to eBay buyers (not everyone buys on eBay)
- scaleable as it allows your business to grow;
- allows you to give more information about your business to your visitors and give them reasons to trust you
- alliws you to give more information about the product, play around with factors that can increase conversion
- gives you a more professional look
- makes you look like a "big" business (an e-commerce seller that also sells on ebay "looks" so much bigger than a purely ebay seller)
- you can put in as many items you want without paying listing fees
- you can sell as many items as you can without paying value added fees
- less restrictions than eBay (you are more free to write your sales copy)
- easier to market on the Web

Cons:
- requires technical knowhow to create a website (or money to pay someone to do it for you)
- fixed price (price you set is what you get)

SELLING ON EBAY

Pros
- auction format; prices can go up higher than you originally set it for
- eBay's brand and size of its market

Cons
- listing and final value fees
- lots of restrictions
- harder to get onto search engines
- link exchanges are more difficult
- increasing competition (it is not as easy to sell now on eBay compared to others)

I would say it depends on what you want with your business. If you have a steady supply of product to sell (not just based on what you can find in your attic), I would go create a website - and THEN use eBay as an additional sales channel. You just have more room to operate and grow your business with having your own store.

I would be online and offline. Gives people more options. Then you also get the customers that don't like purchasing online.

Hi. I found that on ebay, people will buy ANYTHING, as long as it is cheap. To get the cheapest products, you should try importing direct from the manufacturers. I know a few ebay powersellers in real life who use wholesaler and manufacturer directories like http://wholesale.50webs.org/ .. it makes more sence to sign up to a directory like this to get access to thousands of genuine manufacturers, wholesalers and dropshippers than spending ages on google searching for suppliers.

Credit cards are the most convenient way to shop online. With credit card comes the ability to shop from anywhere and anytime. Due to all these facilities and simplified online shopping procedures, credit cards are at the centered of an e-commerce boom. But, instances of credit card fraud while online shopping are not unheard and are growing day by day. What can save you from such online credit card frauds? look at 5 vital tips to make sure that you don't fall into these traps.
1. Yellow lock symbol in your browser's status bar

Modern web browsers ( a software that is used to surf the internet) are quite safe and respond to safe sites. They do it by embedding a yellow lock in the status bar of your browser whenever they go to a secure website. Always check for this yellow lock in the status bar of your browser.

2. https:// and yellow address bar

Whenever you reach a secure website the url of your website will change from http:// to https:// and along with this, if you are using a latest web browser the color of the status bar will also change to yellow. Some browser show a yellow lock right there in the address bar.

3. Encryption

E-commerce websites, which practice safe shopping experience for their customers use 128 bit encryption and more to transfer the data. This is the latest and most secure way of transmitting your credit card information and personal details over the internet. If a shopping website uses this encryption technology it will say it somewhere on their website. The usual place to check is the footer or header of the website where the logos of such encryptions are displayed prominently.

4. Hacker safe

There are website certification programs which test and certify whether a particular website is hacker safe or not. This testing is done on a regular basis and the dates are displayed along with the certification. A website which has undergone some kind of hacker safe testing is definitely a better bet to depend on.
This is true, but there is also a lot out there already, and competition is fierce! In what way would you want to be different or special?
You can test-drive a site like the one you are planning to publish or get some ideas by going to clickbank/marketplace. You can promote an established site for a while and then find out how easy or difficult it is to sell things on the internet.

I use my Hosting company (link below) it is only $5.95 a month UNLIMITED Hosting Space UNLIMITED Site Bandwidth Host UNLIMITED Domains.
I am extremely happy with them.
- Most of drop ship companies they charge you monthly fees and sometimes it is not worth it. I used a few companies they said wholesale price but I my cost with the with shipping and handling fee it was higher then buying it from amzon or ebay.
So I be very very careful.
